Temperature mapping for hospitals

Hospital temperature mapping for fridges, freezers and blood banks

We ship calibrated sensors, and you place them with us on a video call. The readings reach us live. The signed report comes 2 business days after the study.

Sample floorplan of a hospital pharmacy. Glowing sensors sit at the corners and center of a blood bank fridge (19 sensors), a vaccine fridge (10), a plasma freezer (10) and an under-counter fridge (4), with one outside each unit for the room air. Their readings run to a gateway on the wall, which sends them live to Renergy.

How it works

From your fridge to a signed report, live

Calibrated sensors at the corners, the center and outside a fridge send their readings by radio to a gateway. The gateway sends them to Renergy live, while the study runs, and the report fills in as they arrive and is signed when the study ends.

The report

The report fills in while the study runs

A sample temperature mapping report for a single-door vaccine fridge, filling in as the study runs. Each step turns to done: protocol, sensor placement, calibration certificates, the door-open test, the power-off test, the warm and cold spots, where the permanent probe goes, the mean kinetic temperature and raw data, and the review and signature by a certified engineer. Beside them, a picture of each step: the sensors reporting, the door held open, the power cut, the warmest and coldest corners, a pin where the permanent probe goes, the results sheet with its data file, and the signed report with its seal.

Common questions

Does a hospital need temperature mapping?

For blood storage, usually yes. AABB, and CSA Z902 in Canada, expect blood units to be validated before use. Pharmacy and lab units are mapped when an accreditor, a sponsor or a new unit asks.

How much does hospital fridge temperature mapping cost?

$350 for a compact unit, $850 for a single-door upright and $1,600 for a double-door unit, in US dollars, before tax and shipping.

Does the kit need our hospital network or IT team?

No. The gateway sends the readings over its own cellular link, so nothing joins your network and there is nothing for IT to set up.

How long does a study take?

3 days in the unit, which catches the compressor and defrost cycles more than once. The signed report comes 2 business days after the study ends.

What is in the report?

The lowest, highest and average reading at every sensor, the warm and cold spots, the door-open and power-off results, the mean kinetic temperature, any reading outside the range, where the permanent probe should go, the calibration certificates and the raw data. A certified Renergy engineer reviews and signs it.

Do you come on site?

Yes, if you want more help. Assisted installation and full white-glove service are quoted separately. In Ontario and Quebec, travel and installation are free.

Can the sensors stay after the study?

Yes. Keep as many as you need and they become continuous monitoring with TemperatureWise, at $250 a sensor a year.

Can you map a -80°C (-112°F) freezer?

Yes. Ultra-low freezers need sensors rated far colder, so we quote them separately. Tell us the make and size.
