TemperatureWise vs ThermoWorks NODE, honestly compared

The short answer: for one or two walk-ins and one person who needs to know, NODE is hard to beat. The build is right, people vouch for it, and it ships with an NIST cal cert. ThermoWorks has earned that.
Look at TemperatureWise when you need alerts that reach more than one phone and keep going until someone picks up. Or when you run more than one site. Or when you want to spot a dying compressor before the box goes warm. NODE fires on a fixed number. We watch the slope.

What NODE gets right, and why people keep naming it
In the forums where owners talk shop, NODE is the name that comes up most. Not paid for. Not prompted. Just named.

That trust is real. Three things back it up.
The build is right. NODE sits on the outside of the box. A probe runs through the wall. That gets around the steel panel that blocks most cheap sensors. We cover why that panel is a problem in will wireless work through a freezer wall. NODE does it the way we would tell anyone to.
It comes with an NIST cal cert. Few products in this price range do. For a health check or a lab audit, that paper matters. NODE has it out of the box.
It stores up to 70,000 readings on the device. If the Wi-Fi drops, the unit keeps logging. When the link comes back, the data fills in. That is real, and our own Bluetooth sensor does not do it the same way. We said so on the internet outage page and it holds true here.

NODE only alerts one phone on the free tier
NODE's free tier sends a push to the app. One phone. If that phone is asleep, no one knows. At $3 a month, you add texts and email.

TemperatureWise sends the alert to as many people as you set up. It starts with email, moves to a text, then calls the phone and keeps going until someone picks up. All of that is in the price. We went through a Boxing Day case where no one picked up in alerting more than one person.
NODE's higher tiers ($9 to $79 a month) add more users. But at that point the yearly cost passes what we charge, and the math shifts.
TemperatureWise on LoRa gives range and reliability that NODE's Wi-Fi cannot match
NODE runs on 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi. Inside one building with a good router, that can work. But Wi-Fi is not built for thick walls and long runs. It drops, it slows, it fights every other device on the same band.
Where it falls apart: a plant with six walk-ins spread across a floor, a site with more than one building, or any spot where the router is 150 feet and three walls away. At that range it is not one panel to cross. It is the panel, the floor, a fire wall and whatever else is in the way.
TemperatureWise on LoRa handles all of that with one gateway per site. LoRa was designed for exactly this kind of job: long range, low power, through obstacles. The link math, with real dB numbers, is in LoRa, WiFi and Zigbee for cold rooms. In short, LoRa can lose about 55 dB more signal than Wi-Fi and still deliver. That is roughly 300,000 times more margin.
For one small shop this may not matter. For anything larger, TemperatureWise on LoRa is the clear winner.
TemperatureWise catches a failing unit before NODE knows anything is wrong
NODE fires when the temperature crosses a line you set. That works for one thing: it tells you the box is already warm. By then the damage may be done.
TemperatureWise uses a proprietary mix of machine learning on the full temperature history, not just the current reading. It learns what normal looks like for each box and watches dozens of data signals: how long the compressor runs, how fast the box pulls down after a defrost, how the overnight curve is shaped, and more. Rate of change is one of those signals, but only one. A simple rate-of-change rule cannot predict that a compressor is losing gas or that a condenser is slowly fouling. Our system can, because it reads the whole pattern.
A unit that is dying does not warm the box on day one. It runs a bit longer. It pulls down a bit slower. The defrost looks a bit off. Those shifts show up days to weeks before any threshold gets crossed. That is when a $90 tech call on a weekday saves you from a $250 rush call on a Sunday night.

Where we fall short in this match-up
NODE is faster to set up. One device, Wi-Fi, an app. Done. We need a hub or gateway and a short talk about how the site is laid out.
NODE ships its NIST cal cert in the box at no extra step. We offer NIST-traceable cal, but it is not automatic at every price point. If you need one for a CDC vaccine fridge, ask us and we will sort it.
NODE's buffer is a true edge. When the internet drops, NODE keeps its log and fills it in later. Our BLE sensor logs locally but we cannot pull those readings through our system yet. We have said so twice on other pages and it holds here too.
