Vimal Bhaya started Renergy Technologies in 2020 and leads its hardware and software design.
He designs the sensors and the detection models that TemperatureWise, EcoWise, SiteWise and ACWise run on. Before Renergy he spent about ten years designing chips.
What he does at Renergy
- Hardware. Designs the sensors and circuit boards that go into customers' walk-ins, freezers, reefers and plant rooms.
- Detection models. Builds the software that decides when equipment is going wrong, including the slow-decline detection explained in why temperature alarms cry wolf.
- Operations. Advises manufacturers on maintenance scheduling, which is where most of the practical constraints on the products come from.
Before Renergy
For about ten years he designed the analog circuits that go inside enterprise server chips, most of that time at Oracle in Santa Clara: the high-speed links that move data between chips, the clock circuits that keep everything in step, and DDR4 memory systems. Earlier he designed radio and sensor circuits at Redpine Signals, including a temperature sensor built into a chip, and worked on server storage hardware at Cisco.
He also spent three years running an education software company he founded in Bangalore, and taught as a teaching assistant at Stanford University.
Why he writes these articles
The articles on this site make claims about sensor accuracy, where to put a probe, how radio behaves through an insulated panel, and what a temperature curve means. Those are hardware claims, and they are signed by the person who designed the hardware.
Where a claim rests on customer data, we publish the readings with the article so anyone can check them.
