TemperatureWise vs Sensaphone: machine learning detection vs the POTS dial-out

Sensaphone's Model 400 uses a plain old phone line (POTS) to dial out when something goes wrong. That works when both the internet and cellular are down, but only if your building still has a copper phone line. Most newer buildings do not.
TemperatureWise uses a proprietary mix of machine learning on the full temperature history to spot a failing unit days before the box goes warm. Its dashboard is built for a phone, not a web portal. And its pricing scales per sensor, which matters once you have more than a few zones.

What Sensaphone gets right
Sensaphone is a known name in remote monitoring. Users sum it up well:

"Basic" and "worked well" in the same breath is an honest read. Two things the Sensaphone 400 does that most newer systems do not.
POTS dial-out is the last resort that works. The Sensaphone 400 uses a plain phone line to call you when something goes wrong. No internet, no cellular, no cloud. Just a copper wire and a phone that rings.
But a phone line is not something that is always available in newer buildings. Most new builds do not run copper any more. If your site does not have one, the 400 cannot dial out, and the comparison moves to the Sentinel, which needs a cell plan at about $499 a year.
Many zones from one box. Sensaphone units take 4 to 8 probe inputs per base, with no extra hubs. One device watches several zones (temperature, humidity, water, power) with a separate limit on each.

The POTS dial-out only works if you still have a phone line
The Sensaphone 400 reads the probes, spots a breach, and picks up a phone. No internet. No cloud. No app. A copper wire and a ringing phone. The person who answers hears a voice clip saying which zone is out.
That is the ancestor of cell backup, and the idea is the same: a route that does not rely on your building's internet. TemperatureWise offers cell backup for $125 plus $50 a year per site. It does more (text, calls, data, a screen) and it does not need a copper wire that most new buildings no longer run.
If your building still has a POTS line, the 400 is one way to get a call when something breaks. If it does not, and most newer buildings do not, the Sensaphone Sentinel needs a cell plan at about $499 a year. At that price, TemperatureWise gives you machine-learning detection, a modern dashboard, and phone-call escalation for a similar ongoing cost.
TemperatureWise catches a failing unit before Sensaphone knows anything is wrong
Sensaphone fires when the temperature crosses a line. That tells you the box is already warm.
TemperatureWise uses a proprietary mix of machine learning on the full temperature history. It watches how long the compressor runs, how fast the box pulls down, and how the overnight curve is shaped. A unit losing gas, a failing defrost or a bad seal all change the pattern days to weeks before the number crosses any line.

Where we fall short in this match-up
We cannot alert you if both the internet and the cell are down. The cloud raises the flag, but if it cannot reach your phone, the alert queues until a path comes back. The Sensaphone 400's POTS dial-out is better there, if you have the line.
The 400 with no software plan is cheap if you already pay for a phone line. The base, a few probes, and no recurring software fee. The trade-off is no dashboard, no history, no remote view, and no pattern detection. You get a call and that is all.
