TemperatureWise vs Monnit: deep on temperature, or broad on everything

Monnit is a broad IoT platform with over 30 sensor types: temperature, humidity, door, water leak, CO2, vibration and more. If you need a dozen sensor types on one screen, Monnit does that. TemperatureWise does one thing: watches cold-chain data with machine learning and spots failing gear before you lose product.
Two facts to know before you compare prices: Monnit charges apart for text alert credits (about $120 USD for 1,000 credits, and phone calls need a third-party link), and the free tier checks in every two hours, which is four times slower than our cheapest sensor. Both are fair trade-offs for a general IoT platform, but they change what the sticker price really buys for cold-chain monitoring.
What Monnit gets right
Monnit has a catalogue that runs well past temperature. Owners use it for everything from brite tanks in a brewery to CO2 in a grow room.

That breadth is a real edge if you need many sensor types. Two things Monnit does that a temperature-focused system does not.
30+ sensor types on one platform. Temperature, humidity, door, water leak, power, vibration, CO2, air quality, light, pressure and more. One gateway, one screen, one API. If you run a plant and temperature is one of ten things you track, that counts.
Low software cost at small scale, but text and phone alerts are not included. iMonnit Premiere starts at about $45 a year for up to 6 sensors, and $120 a year for up to 25. That is the software plan only. Text alerts cost about $120 per 1,000 credits on top. Phone call alerts are not built in and need a third-party link.
TemperatureWise puts texts, phone calls and all features in the $250 per sensor per year price. Nothing extra.
Open API and an on-site option. Monnit's API lets builders layer on top of the platform, and iMonnit Enterprise runs on your own server. TemperatureWise also gives API access for teams that want to pull data into their own tools.

Monnit text and phone alerts cost extra on every plan
This earns its own section because it shifts most side-by-side price looks.
TemperatureWise puts text and phone call alerts in the price, on both sensor tiers. Send a hundred texts a month or five. Same cost. Add ten people to the alert chain. Same cost.
Monnit's email alerts are in. Text alerts need bought credit packs: 1,000 credits for about USD $120 from a reseller. Each text burns one credit. Phone call alerts are not built in at all and need a third-party service.
A thousand texts sounds like a lot. But think of a walk-in that runs a defrost every six hours and briefly touches a limit. Four false alarms a day, two people each, is 240 texts a month. The pack lasts four months. That is roughly $360 a year in text credits alone, on top of the plan.
The deeper cost is not the credits. Metered alerts quietly push you to add fewer people. Every extra phone doubles the burn rate, which is the opposite of what a good alert system should do. We cover why more people make a system safer, not louder, in alerting more than one person.
Monnit's two-hour heartbeat means four defrost cycles in the dark
Monnit's free plan sets the check-in to every 2 hours. You see one reading per 2-hour window.
A walk-in runs a defrost roughly every 6 hours. At a 2-hour pace, you see one reading per defrost cycle. You may or may not catch the temperature spike mid-defrost, and you cannot see the shape of the curve. The shape is where the clues live.
TemperatureWise's BLE sensor reads every minute and logs every 5 minutes. The LoRa sensor logs every 15 minutes. Even the slower one is eight times faster than Monnit's free tier.
Monnit's Premiere brings the heartbeat to 10 minutes. That is fair. But Premiere is an added cost, and the real question is the total: hardware plus gateway plus plan plus text credits, over three years.
TemperatureWise delivers alerts that matter, not a flood of false alarms
Monnit fires on simple thresholds: the temperature crossed a line, so you get a text. Every defrost spike, every door held open, every brief touch of a limit sends the same alert. The result is a stream of texts that people learn to ignore.
TemperatureWise uses a proprietary mix of machine learning on the full temperature history. It knows what a defrost looks like and does not wake you for it. It watches how long the compressor runs, how fast the box pulls down, how the overnight curve is shaped. When something is actually wrong, it sends an alert that people still read.

Cheap threshold alerts need someone watching them around the clock. TemperatureWise alerts need someone to pick up the phone when it rings, because it only rings when it matters.

Where we fall short in this match-up
We do temperature and humidity. Monnit does everything. If your plant needs door tracking, water leak alerts, CO2, power logging and temperature all on one screen with one vendor, Monnit covers more sensor types than we do. Water leakage and power monitoring are available through EcoWise, our partner product on the same backend, but not on the same 30+ catalogue that Monnit offers.
Monnit's on-site option is a real edge for firms that need data on their own servers. TemperatureWise is a cloud platform with API access, not an on-premises install.
