Two systems. One walk-in. No simple fallback.

A direct-to-home frozen smoothie brand used two refrigeration systems to serve a 2,000 sq. ft. walk-in at its Philadelphia distribution center. The room held about $450,000 in frozen inventory.

TemperatureWise communicated the first developing issue on June 10, 2025, while the freezer was still cycling near 6.8°F / -14°C. By July, service work identified a refrigerant leak along with a broken fan blade, motor and bracket across the two systems.

The challenge

Redundancy only works when both systems are healthy.

The product load depended on two refrigeration systems serving the same 2,000 sq. ft. walk-in. Trouble on both sides removed the intended safety margin.

The decline began before the emergency

The pattern changed on June 10, nearly a month before the July 7 to 8 initial repair. A threshold-only alarm would have exposed the team much later.
